Of serious concern to all Zionists

The looming Chareidi disaster. (Hat-tip: MOChassid, here.)

One of the main points:

"Currently haredim account for 11 percent of draft exemptions. However, unless the system changes, when today's haredi first-graders turn 18, they will comprise nearly a quarter of the entire draft."

While I mostly agree with your post, this article by Obadiah Shoher presents the haredim in somewhat different light http://samsonblinded.org/blog/not-true-rabbis.htm Shoher argues against haredim isolating themselves from other Jews instead of bringing the religion to masses.

Amen to that link! One of the jobs of a rabbi, in my opinion, is to encourage others to make a strong commitment to Jewish practice, however one interprets that practice. The practice, in some communities, of isolating rabbis in ivory towers does not necessarily serve the community well. How can you serve a community that you barely know?
